North East Medical Services PACE Center | One Workplace

Culturally Sensitive Community Healthcare

At One Workplace, we believe healing environments must reflect and embrace the identities of the communities they serve. Our healthcare team is dedicated to creating spaces defined by compassion, dignity, and inclusion. For the NEMS PACE Center in San Jose, this meant partnering closely with North East Medical Services, IA and Hillhouse Construction to deliver a place where aging Asian American seniors—many from multilingual, multicultural backgrounds—could feel truly at home. The result is a center where access to care is provided in culturally responsive ways, and where meaningful connections, traditions, and a sense of belonging are woven into the very fabric of daily life.

Welcoming Environments

Spaces That Support the Whole Person

From the moment patients arrive in this award winning space, they are welcomed into a calm, intuitive setting. Wide, open reception areas ensure easy navigation for those with limited mobility or memory challenges. A custom felt art installation softens the acoustics and adds a touch of beauty, all the furniture pieces for patients and staff were selected for comfort and support, signaling that care here is both clinical and deeply personal.

From oversized exam rooms for family inclusion and spaces for cultural activities like group karaoke to a menu reflecting the varied Asian  communities represented in San Jose, every element reflects compassion and respect for elders’ cultural identities.
