A Campus Reimagined for the Community it Serves

San Mateo County Health's Medical Center Campus has always been more than a hospital. For decades, it's been the safety net, the place that serves everyone, including those who have historically lacked access to care. When the County began planning a near-decade-long transformation of the campus in 2016, they weren't just meeting a seismic deadline. They were reimagining what a public health campus could be.

One Workplace is proud to serve as the furniture solutions provider for San Mateo County Health and for this landmark project, helping translate a bold design vision into spaces that work and support patients, caregivers, and the community at large.

Where Community Walks in

The new Link Building is the heart of the campus arrival experience. a light-filled entry sequence orients visitors immediately, leading them to a public café, gift shop, and essential services including health insurance support, billing assistance, and the San Mateo County Health Foundation.

Outdoor green space, an exercise lawn, walking paths, and gardens extend an open invitation to the surrounding neighborhood, signaling clearly that this campus belongs to the community, not just to those seeking clinical care.

Our furniture solutions for public and transitional spaces honor that spirit: warm enough to feel welcoming, durable enough for high-traffic civic use, and accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

Workplaces That Work for Caregivers

The Administration Building was designed to break from the enclosed, traditional environments county staff had long worked in. Open sightlines, abundant daylight, a skylit central staircase, collaborative whiteboard walls, and cafés on every floor were all intentional, meant to spark the unplanned conversations that move work forward.

We furnished these spaces to match that ambition. Staff seating, collaborative furniture, and amenity space options all support flexibility, movement, and well-being across a workforce long deserving a better environment. In healthcare settings, the administrative backbone is what keeps care delivery running, and it deserves furniture that supports people, not just fills the space.
