Opening a new main Library | Parks & Recreation Center to house many of South San Francisco’s most popular programs, resources and events was monumental, and a master project team delivered. SmithGroup design, Kitchell PM, SSF team members, One Workplace and BCI Libraries nailed every detail.
Meeting the needs of an entire community is a tall task, but this project checks all the boxes. Fresh, tailored spaces for children, teens, adults, inside and outside makes the South San Francisco Library | Parks & Rec Center a true destination. Featuring all expected spaces and several new amenities for the community including a high-tech Discovery Center, Teen Zone, study and meeting rooms, alongside Parks & Rec’s movement studios, classrooms, teaching kitchen and more.
Working closely with our partner BCI Libraries, every book, periodical, CD and newspaper received a new home in the right size shelving structurally engineered to be seismically safe and sound. And we had fun curating furniture with just the right finishes for all the specialty areas, computer lab, maker spaces, Teen Lounge, library tables and seating for a comfortable read alone or with your Mom.
