Designing the Future of Husky Basketball

Training Champions. Building Community.

At the University of Washington, the new 36,000-square-foot Intercollegiate Athletics Basketball Training Facility stands as a powerful example of what’s possible when design, construction, and community come together with a shared vision. Delivered through the collaboration of Gensler, Mortenson, and University partners, and made possible through significant donor and alumni support, the facility elevates both women’s and men’s basketball programs with a state-of-the-art environment for training, recovery, and connection. Seamlessly integrated with Alaska Airlines Arena and adjacent performance spaces, it creates a cohesive ecosystem designed to support the full student-athlete experience. One Workplace partnered closely with the project team to curate furniture and ancillary solutions that help bring this vision to life.

Supporting the Spaces Between the Game

The new facility provides dedicated training environments for both the men’s and women’s basketball programs, integrating practice courts, strength and conditioning spaces, locker rooms, film and strategy rooms, lounges, and player development areas.

Designed to support the full experience of a student-athlete, the building emphasizes both performance and wellbeing, offering spaces where athletes can train intensely, recover effectively, and build community together.

Our team offered curated options and "sit tests" for the UW users to make sure all furniture solutions were the perfect fit.

Spaces That Strengthen Team Culture

Because athletic environments demand flexibility and resilience, furniture selections prioritized durability, adaptable layouts, and high-performance materials while maintaining the refined aesthetic envisioned by Gensler.

From athlete lounges that foster connection and recovery, to film rooms and meeting spaces where strategy takes shape, each environment supports the broader mission of Husky Basketball: preparing athletes to perform at the highest level.
