West Valley and Mission College Cafeterias

A comprehensive, turnkey solution grounded in student-centered design.

When the West Valley–Mission Community College District launched the nation’s first universal free meal program for community college students, the initiative called for more than a dining upgrade. It required welcoming, high-performing environments that would reduce barriers to education and foster a stronger sense of belonging on campus.

Our Learning Environments team led the transformation of the cafés and student spaces at both West Valley College and Mission College, delivering fully integrated, end-to-end solutions, from initial programming through installation.

Project Highlights

Each campus project carried an approximate $2 million budget and was completed in roughly 120 days from programming through installation.

West Valley College: Main cafeteria, multiple posture seating and dining areas, live edge powered work table, entry lounge space, renovated bookstore space with quiet individual and group work areas.

Mission College: Main cafeteria, multiple seating and dining areas, entry lounge, individual and group workspaces, data connections and powered work tables.

All design, specification, installation and project management services for this renovation project were managed internally by One Workplace, in partnership with the WVC/Mission College Facilities staff.

Adaptive Reuse with Impact

A standout element was the transformation of unused former bookstore areas into dynamic student lounges.

This adaptive reuse revitalized dormant square footage, significantly expanded access to power and flexible seating, and delivered a high end and coveted study space enhancing the student experience.

Creating environments to support engagement, equity and academic success.
